How to propose to my girlfriend?

I am a high school senior and am planning on marrying my junior girlfriend next year after she graduates. We both live in Wyoming and I am planning on joining the navy this summer, if this happens then I will be in boot camp sometime in august-november, how should I propose to her, and what do I need to do before proposing?
